WINEMAKING TEAM

Jason Moulton

Director of Winemaking and Viticulture

The Leonardini Family introduced Jason Moulton as their winemaker in 2016. In 2022, Jason was elevated to Director of Winemaking and Viticulture. Jason joined the family winery because of their commitment to sustainable traditions in their vineyards and winemaking.  Since 2016, Jason has immersed himself in the nuances of the eight estate vineyards, energized the winemaking team and elevated wine quality to a new level.

Through the years, Jason has ascended the ranks from cellar worker to cellar master, to winemaker. He graduated from Lincoln University Viticulture/Enology program in New Zealand and spent more than a dozen years making wine in Napa, Russian River, Canada, New Zealand, Bordeaux and South Africa before joining Whitehall Lane.

In 2024, Jason received a Global Wine Executive MBA from Sonoma State University.

Alejandro Oviedo

Associate Winemaker

Alejandro, or “Alex”, was born in Madrid, Spain and earned a B.S. in Food Science at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and an Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Viticulture and Enology at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

After a few years working in different wineries across the world, (Spain, Chile, Portugal, UK, Germany), Alex decided to experience a harvest in Napa Valley in 2019 as an intern at Whitehall Lane. Alex was quickly promoted to Enologist, and most recently earned his role as Associate Winemaker.

Outside of the winery, Alex loves cooking new and different dishes from around the world, reading and learning. A couple of recent favorite books are “The Intelligent Investor” by Benjamin Graham and “La Soledad del Mando”, by Isabel Sierra.

Alex believes in the integration of technology into agriculture and the importance of sustainability because “Sine agriculture nihil”. (Motto of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, translated to “Without agriculture there is nothing”.)

Stefania Planchestainer

Enologist

Stefania was born in Rovereto, Trentino, Italy. She spent her college years at University of Udine, Italy, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture and Enology. Stefania’s first harvest internship position in Napa Valley was with Whitehall Lane in 2016. Stefania came to us with harvest experience from New Zealand, Australia and Italy. Stefania was named Enologist when she returned to Napa Valley in 2023. She was thrilled to return to Whitehall Lane because she respects the winemaking style and methodology here.

Stefania rarely relaxes. Her weekends include hiking, skiing, rollerblading and gym workouts. With a background as a tennis player, she’s a great recruit for our Whitehall Lane pickleball team.

Tom Leonardini 3

Cellar Master

Tom Leonardini 3, or “Tommy” as he is known around the winery has been Cellar Master since 2021. But Tommy has been with Whitehall Lane much longer than that. Raised in St. Helena, Tommy spent his childhood at the winery property with his father, Tom Jr., who runs national and international sales.

Before settling at Whitehall Lane professionally, Tommy graduated with a B.S. in Sociology from Arizona State University. He started his wine industry career at Green and Red Vineyard, then Napa Beverage Company before joining the family business in 2020.

When not at the winery, Tommy can be found at home building motorcycles, or in a desert riding them, while exploring the back country. Tommy considers himself a regular guy from wine country that is passionate in the cellar with both tradition and innovation.
