Hello From The Road: Chef Larry Checks In – We Are Finally Home!

2233

After 14 days, 9 states and 2958 miles we were finally on the last leg of our trip. The trip from Nashville to Greenville was beautiful. We drove through the Great Smoky Mountains (the most visited National Park in America, I know…I didn’t believe it either) and then the Blue Ridge Mountains. The beauty is overwhelming, with ridge upon ridge of lush green forest with amazing blooming flowers. It was just awesome to experience. As we came down the mountains and entered South Carolina, it was starting to become real, even a little surreal. We were arriving without a permanent home, no acquaintances and not any idea of what would come next…exciting! We did secure a short-term rental for a few weeks before we began our journey, which allowed us a temporary place to stay while we acclimated ourselves. We placed most of what we owned in storage in California, and travelled with only what we could fit in the trunk of our car. So, we arrived in Greenville with some clothes, toiletries and the essential Vitamix and Nespresso. The rental space was fairly easy to find. It is small, but cute and in a beautiful, quiet area. We emptied the car, relaxed for a short while, then decided to go to the Swamp Rabbit Trail Café for a bite. The menu looked delicious and healthy. While we were enjoying our late lunch, our waitress brought us scones, coffee (no charge) and welcomed us to Greenville. We felt that Southern Hospitality immediately!

I woke in the morning after a great night’s rest. It’s a new day and a new life. We enjoyed scones and coffee for breakfast. We took a morning stroll in our new neighborhood, which is across the street from Furman College. We felt like we were on vacation, but then realized that we are now “home”.
