2009 Belforte, 500ml

$45.00 per bottle   /   $38.25 club price

Belforte is a true port-style wine made from Petite Sirah grapes grown in Napa Valley. Unable to call it ‘Port’, the name Belforte loosely translates to “beautiful fortified wine”. The 2009 Belforte is the second vintage of this dessert wine, following a very delicious release of the 2006 vintage.

This wine has great depth of color and sweet, ripe fruit flavors that are beautifully framed by the smoothness of the port.  It is not excessively sweet yet has a richness and a wonderful lengthy finish.  This 2009 Belforte is the perfect wine to enjoy at the end of a meal or when celebrating an evening.

The fruit was harvested at a very high degree of ripeness to ensure concentrated bright fruit flavors and added sweetness. During the fermentation process, the wine was fortified with exceptional high-proof brandy to halt fermentation and give this flavorful wine a high degree of natural sweetness. The wine was aged in 12 oak barrels for 22 months.

2009 was an outstanding growing season in Napa Valley. The grapes bloomed in perfect conditions in mid-May, and the summer days brought ample sun and heat as the fruit grew and ripened on the vine. The dry fall weather gave us the opportunity to leave some Petite Sirah grapes hanging on the vine for an extended period with a complex, sweet port style wine in mind.
