This 2014 Leonardini Vineyard Cabernet is richly textured and beautifully balanced with ample ripe fruit flavors and aromas. On the nose, it proves to be a brilliant soft and elegant wine. It offers candied blueberry, violets, black cherry, graphite, stewed Agen prunes, wet concrete, dried tea, and a touch of croissant. The palate is enriched by its heavy array of black and blue fruits, giving way to cassis, blackberries, blueberry compote, and an intense richness on the palate. The mouthfeel lines up to bring about a chalky structure, which softens on the palate in the finish to create a long, elegant experience with this wine. Enjoy now or allow it to continue evolving with proper cellaring through 2030.

WINEMAKER NOTES

The Leonardini Vineyard Cabernet comes from one of our most prized vineyards and is the owner’s name-sake.  It is located on the western side of the valley floor in the St. Helena AVA, which is celebrated for its exceptional gravelly-loam soil. After being hand harvested and  de-stemmed, the fermentation was kept at 82°F for ideal extraction of aromas and flavors. The  wine was then aged in 50% new French oak barrels and 50% neutral French oak barrels for 26 months.   

 

THE VINTAGE

2014 has been heralded as one of the best vintages to come out of Napa Valley. The weather was ideal from bud break in the early Spring through to September 16th when the grapes were harvested.
