WINEMAKER NOTESThis 2014 wine was made from hand-selected grapes in one small vineyard block. It is known as Block 5, but the Cabernet Sauvignon is clone 30, which consistently makes our top Cabernet from this vineyard year-to-year. After hand harvesting and processing, the fermentation is kept at 82 F, keeping it warm and ideal for extraction of aromas and flavors. The wine then goes down to 50% new French oak barrels and 50% neutral French oak barrels for 26 months for aging and refining. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
THE VINTAGEThe fruit in our Millennium MM Vineyard enjoyed the ultimate growing season in 2014. The Spring weather was perfect and the Summer was even better. The grapes grew beautifully under ideal conditions and were harvested on September 21st when the fruit displayed perfect flavors and ripeness. The Millennium MM Cabernet is made from grapes grown less than one-half mile from the winery, on the northern edge of the Rutherford AVA. This gravelly clay and loam vineyard produces grapes that have been used in some of Napa Valley’s storied wines for the past half-century. Whitehall Lane’s Leonardini Family bought the vineyard in the Millennium year, 2000 and brought modern viticulture science to the property, improving on the already impeccable quality.
