Experiencing the dark side with concentrated and full-bodied flavors. It is extraordinarily balanced with flavors of tart cherry, blackberry and molasses that meld with chewy tannins and smoky oak. Its restrained power makes it enjoyable now but will continue to evolve through 2020.

WINEMAKER NOTES

The Fawn Park Vineyard is located on the eastern slope of Napa Valley in the St. Helena Appellation. The Leonardini Family purchased the 18-acre vineyard in 2004 and almost immediately planted a 2.4-acre block of Petit Verdot grapes in the uppermost corner of the property where it receives full daytime sunlight and drains beautifully. Every year since the vines began producing fruit, the grapes have been blended into our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve and now the Leonardini Estate Caberntet Sauvignon.  In 2013, winemaker Dean Sylvester selected five barrels for a stand-alone Petit Verdot wine.

THE VINTAGE

2014 was a very typical growing season in Napa Valley.  Although the winter was drier than normal, early spring rains brought much needed water to the vineyards as bud break began. Outstanding spring weather was followed by an ideal summer of hot days and cool nights.  The Petit Verdot grapes in the Fawn Park Vineyard matured exquisitely into autumn and were harvested on October 9, 2014
