“Deep garnet in color with a hint of purple, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon I de V is a little closed to begin, soon unfurling to reveal notes of baked plums, crème de cassis and cedar chest plus touches of garrigue, dried Mediterranean herbs, underbrush and fungi with a faint waft of tapenade. Full-bodied, concentrated and hedonic in the mouth, it gives up bold black fruit preserves flavors with loads of earthy sparks, framed by taut, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long.”

The 2015 I de V is a very unique statement of one of the five Bordeaux varietals grown in Napa Valley. This bottling is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery’s top vineyard blocks. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. It saw 26 months in oak barrels of which 85% was new French oak.

The 2015 vintage started with very little rainfall prior to bud break, enabling the vintage to be considered a drought year.  Drought years often lead to less vegetative growth and more focused fruit development, which is always a great thing for winemakers.  The Spring eventually brought about flowering, which was cooler than expected and in turn affected the fruit set and potential yields.  Even though yields in the vineyards were down, this provided the winemaking team with increased concentration of tannins and flavors from the grapes.  Summer was relatively warm and allowed the fruit to ripen at a steady pace and by September and October, the grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness.
