2015 Petit Verdot

$38.00 per bottle   /   $32.30 club price

This Petit Verdot is like experiencing the dark side…with concentrated, full-bodied flavors. It is extraordinarily balanced with aromas of black currants, clove, blackberry pie, Agen prunes, cedar, and a hint of earth and dust. Its palate exudes flavors of black cherry cola, crème de cassis, tar, fresh black plums and toasted almond croissant. Its powerful chalky tannin mouthfeel truly lets you know THIS is Petit Verdot. This wine shall be enjoyable now but will continue to evolve through 2025 and perhaps beyond.

The Fawn Park Vineyard is located on the eastern slope of Napa Valley in the St.  Helena Appellation.

The Leonardini Family purchased the 18-acre vineyard in 2004 and almost immediately planted a 2.4-acre block of Petit Verdot grapes in the uppermost corner of the property where it receives full daytime sunlight and drains beautifully. Upon hand harvesting, our Petit Verdot was hand sorted and carefully destemmed and sent to tank for a whole berry fermentation.  The fermentation temperature never went above 82F, which allowed for a warm extraction from the skins. After fermentation and pressing, the wine went to 40% new French oak, 60% neutral French oak barrels, aging for 18 months. This wine was unfined and unfiltered.

The Vintage 2015 was considered a drought year for the grape growing season in Napa Valley. Although the winter was drier than normal, it allowed enough rains for the vines to soak up and be ready for bud break. Cool spring weather was followed by an ideal summer of hot days and cool nights. The fall season was very warm and ripened the fruit at a steady pace. The Petit Verdot grapes in the Fawn Park Vineyard were harvested on September 20th, 2015.
