The 2016 Mancino Lanciatore offers a powerful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. On the nose, it’s enticing and fragrant with notes of blackberries, Agen prunes, black olives, graphite, caramel, candied walnut, and cedar. Its palate provides big, round chewy tannins, stewed black plums, toasted nuts, Madagascar vanilla beans, and a touch of dark roast coffee. This wine has big shoulders and we recommend decanting for a few hours before enjoying or cellar for 15-20 years.

WINEMAKER NOTES

Its name translated from Italian means “left-handed thrower” and is an ode to our proprietor, Thomas Leonardini, Sr. and several other left-handed Leonardinis. Tom was a standout left-handed pitcher in his day with pin-point accuracy while delivering the occasional “chin music”. This Cabernet is also a standout and delivers all-star power and finesse from grapes grown exclusively in Whitehall Lane’s Oak Glen Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District. The wine is definitely a home run!

THE VINTAGE

The 2016 vintage began with a mild winter and not much rain, leading to an early bud break and an early start of our growing season. Spring weather was cool and summer was warm, allowing the fruit to mature at a steady pace.  By September and October, the grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness. The Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine was harvested predominantly from our Oak Glen vineyard, but has a touch of our Fawn Park and Millenium MM vineyard to balance it out.
