WINEMAKER NOTES Luchtel Vineyard is situated in the Oak Knoll AVA with in Napa Valley and is farmed by our grower Gary Luchtel. The Syrah clones are a blend of 470 and 383. The fruit was brought in and we put 15% whole cluster bunches of Syrah and 7% whole cluster bunches of Viognier in the tank. Then, we destemmed Syrah whole berries on top of the whole clusters. This technique is coveted in the Cote Rotie region of the Rhone Valley in France. The co-fermentation of Viognier softens the tannins of the Syrah while the whole cluster and stem inclusion contribute structure and texture. The fruit was cold soaked and then fermented at 76ºF for 7-10 days before before being pressed off. We then aged the wine in premium French oak barrels (15% new, 85% neutral) for 10 months. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
