“A barrel sample, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon I de V is opaque garnet-purple in color and features fragrant wafts of baked plums, stewed blackberries and cassis with hints of sautéed herbs, olives and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied and firm, the palate is chewy with appealing freshness and a spicy kick to the finish.”

WINEMAKER NOTES

The 2017 I de V is a very unique statement of one of the five Bordeaux varietals grown in Napa Valley. This bottling is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery’s top vineyard blocks. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. It saw 26 months in oak barrels of which 100% was new French oak.

THE VINTAGE

The 2017 year began with abundant rainfall, followed by a mild Spring resulting in extended flowering with little shatter. The summer warmed up nicely, allowing the fruit to mature at an even rate with optimum conditions for flavor development. A Labor Day weekend heat event kicked harvest into high gear, then cool weather allowed sugar levels to return to normal. Our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested in late September and early October, when they were in perfect balance.
