WINEMAKER NOTESThe Fawn Park Vineyard is located on the eastern slope of Napa Valley in the St. Helena appellation. The Leonardini Family purchased the 18-acre vineyard in 2004 and almost immediately planted a 2.4-acre block of Petit Verdot grapes in the uppermost corner of the property where it receives full daytime sunlight and drains beautifully. Upon hand harvesting, our Petit Verdot was hand sorted and carefully destemmed and sent to tank for a whole berry fermentation. The fermentation temperature never went above 82 ̊F, which allowed for a warm extraction from the skins. After fermentation and pressing, the wine aged in 50% new French oak and 50% neutral oak barrels, for 26 months. This wine is unfined and unfiltered.
THE VINTAGEBudbreak began in early April of 2018 in the Fawn Park Vineyard, leading to a Spring that was mild and dry. Flowering proved to be long and gave way to a healthy set of uniform grape clusters. Summer was also quite warm and long, followed by cooling temperatures near the end of the growing season. The consistent summer weather encouraged the Petit Verdot grapes to ripen in to late September. The Petit Verdot grapes in the Fawn Park Vineyard were harvested on September 28th, 2018 at optimal ripeness.
