Visiting North Lake Tahoe: The Leonardini Family Way

March in North Lake Tahoe is an idyllic winter getaway. With sunny days and some of the best snow of the season on the ground, it’s among our family’s favorite vacation spots. If you’re eager to get in some snowy fun during the last few weeks of winter, here are some of our favorite recommendations to visit.

A great way to start-off your trip is with a winter sleigh ride. Bring a warm blanket, pack a picnic basket with hot chocolate or your favorite Merlot, and enjoy a panoramic view of the lake. You can bring the kids or even the family dog along—both scenarios are possible upon request.

For some time on the slopes, we take our skis and head to Diamond Peak Ski Resort. There’s convenient parking right near the lift, and you never have to worry about a lack of snow thanks to Diamond Peak’s new state-of-the-art snowmaking technology.

Between skiing and taking in the sweeping views from Incline Village, we loyally dine at some of Tahoe’s best restaurants such as Bite American Tapas. The Cowgirl Creamery Cheese Plate of honey, house fig cherry jam, cheese and warm bread is richly satisfying after a day in the snow. If you are looking for dinner and a view, head to Big Water Grille where you can enjoy unrivaled sights from their wall of windows that look out across the lake.

The Hyatt Hotel is a prime spot to lay your head at night. And if you’re up for some nightlife, you can take advantage of the Hyatt’s ski lodge-styled casino, or take a dip in the heated, year-round swimming pool. There are multiple casual dining restaurants to choose from, and if you’re in need of some “me” time, treat yourself to a relaxing visit at Stillwater Spa.

If you’re craving some indoor exercise, the Incline Village Parks and Recreation building has a first-class Recreation Center that includes an eight-lane indoor pool, cardiovascular room, fitness classes, personal training, and a gymnasium for basketball pick-up games.

You could spend a whole day at Northstar alone, we often do. Shopping, dining, a movie theatre, ice-skating, an Apex bungy trampoline—Northstar has it all. For those who enjoy crafting, The Villager Candle Shop offers candle making, or you can pursue pottery painting and mosaic building at Pottery Painting & More. The plaza’s ice rink is great to take a spin or simply sit in the plush seating by the fire pits and enjoy some live music.

With spring right around the corner, soak up all the snow you can. Safe travels on your winter vacation!
